The specification devices discussed in Chapter II provide limited details on thermal oxidation with respect to aircraft design and operation. Much additional information is needed to design an aircraft system, select materials, and define thermal limitations. The specification testers are inadequate because they (a) operate at elevated temperatures to reduce test time, (b) minimize fuel consumption by reducing flow rate and test time, and (c) incorporate only one or two simple, generic parts in the stress portion of the device.
